TonightCue Privacy Policy
Effective October 18, 2026
TonightCue is made by Buntai ("we", "us"). TonightCue helps with finding something to watch: trending movies and shows, mood picks, where to stream, and a watchlist with new-episode alerts. It comes as a website (tonightcue.buntai.com), a Windows app from the Microsoft Store, and a browser extension, "TonightCue Search". This policy explains what data each of them uses.
1. Data that stays on your device
- Windows app: your watchlist and episode-alert state, your settings and cached data are stored in a local database in the app's Windows app-data folder. We can't see this data. Uninstalling the app deletes it.
- Website: your watchlist and episode-alert state are saved in your browser's local storage. The site also stores files for offline use (service worker). Clear them in your browser's site-data settings.
- Notifications: the Windows app schedules its reminders and alerts on your PC. It downloads reminder text from our server, and that request doesn't include anything about you.
2. Data sent to our server
To work, TonightCue sends these to our server at tonightcue.buntai.com:
- the titles you search for and the movies/shows you open (to fetch details, where to watch and similar titles);
- in the Windows app, the IDs of the titles on your watchlist, when the app checks for new episodes in the background;
- Search suggestions: as you type in a search box, and in your browser's address bar when the extension is installed, the text you've typed so far is sent so we can show suggestions;
- Web results: the search terms you look up in the app's or site's web results;
- Ask TonightCue (AI answers): your questions, the earlier messages in that conversation, and the name and basic facts of the item on screen (for example its title);
- Reports: if you use the Report button on an AI answer, your report reason, any note you add, the question and answer, and the app version.
What we keep. Our application doesn't store your searches, questions or AI conversations. Some things are kept for a limited time:
- Our web server's access logs record the IP address, time, requested URL (which can include the search term) and browser type of each request. We use them only for security and troubleshooting and delete them automatically after up to 10 days.
- To prevent abuse, our server keeps IP addresses in memory for up to one hour to apply rate limits.
- We cache the results we get back from data providers for search terms, to cut cost and load. This cache doesn't record who searched.
- Reports you send are stored with your country (from our CDN) but not your IP address. We keep them for up to 12 months, to review content and improve answers.
3. The browser extension ("TonightCue Search")
The extension makes "TonightCue Search" your browser's default search engine. That means:
- Each time you type in the address bar, the browser sends the text to
tonightcue.buntai.com/suggest. Our server gets suggestions for it from Microsoft Bing (Bing sees the text but receives it from our server, not from you) and may add one TonightCue suggestion. - When you search, our server redirects you to Microsoft Bing to show the results. If you pick a TonightCue suggestion, it opens the TonightCue site instead (or the TonightCue app, if you connected this browser; see below). Bing's results pages are run by Microsoft under the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
- The extension doesn't read the pages you visit, your browsing history or any other tabs. To stop all of this, remove the extension (see Support).
Connecting the app and your browser (optional). If you use both the Windows app and the TonightCue Search extension, the app can connect them, so your saved items show first in the address bar. To know where the extension is, the app checks, on your PC only, which Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge profiles have TonightCue Search installed (it reads the browsers' extension lists and nothing else — not your history, pages, bookmarks or passwords — and sends none of it to us). When the extension is found, the app connects by opening a page on tonightcue.buntai.com in that browser profile, which stores a random identifier in a cookie there (used only for this and never shared). You can also connect from the browser ("Connect to the app" on the page shown after you add the extension). You can turn off automatic connection in the app (Extension page or Settings). Once connected:
- The app sends our server the names of the items you saved (the shows and movies you follow) with their links in the app, and keeps that list up to date. Nothing else about you or your device is sent.
- When you type in that browser's address bar, the cookie lets our server show your matching saved items first. Picking a TonightCue suggestion then opens it in the app.
- Our server remembers the last 10 TonightCue items you opened from the address bar, so the app can show them under "Opened from your browser".
- Disconnect any time in the app (Extension page or Settings) or on the connection page in your browser. That deletes this data from our server. Data for a connection that isn't used for 180 days is deleted automatically.
4. Services we use
- Microsoft Bing — search suggestions and search results (see section 3). The app's "Continue on Bing" links also open Bing.
- Anthropic — writes the answers for "Ask TonightCue". It receives your question, the conversation so far and the facts about the item on screen, sent by our server (not your IP address). Anthropic processes them only to generate the answer, under its commercial API terms.
- TMDB (The Movie Database) — movie and TV information, posters and where-to-watch data. Our server requests the data; posters and logos load directly from TMDB's image servers (
image.tmdb.org), so TMDB sees your IP address for those images. Where-to-watch data is provided to TMDB by JustWatch. - SerpAPI — fetches web results for the terms you search inside TonightCue. It receives the search term from our server, not your IP address.
- Cloudflare — hosting, content delivery and security. It handles all traffic to our sites and server, and tells us which country a request comes from.
- Google Fonts — some pages load fonts from Google, which sees your IP address when they load.
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. We don't use advertising or analytics trackers or tracking cookies. The only cookie we set is the optional browser-connection cookie described in section 3.
TMDB · This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. Where-to-watch data provided by JustWatch.
5. AI-generated content
Answers in "Ask TonightCue" are written by an AI model and can be inaccurate, incomplete or out of date. Check important information yourself. If an answer is wrong or inappropriate, use the Report button under it or email us.
6. Children
TonightCue is not aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
7. Your choices and rights
You can delete data stored on your device at any time: uninstall the app, remove the extension, or clear the site's data in your browser. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or the CCPA), you may have the right to access or delete personal data we hold about you, or to object to how we use it. We hold very little — mainly short-lived server logs and any reports you sent. To make a request, email [email protected].
8. Security and international transfers
All traffic is encrypted (HTTPS). Our servers and the services above may process data in the United States and other countries.
9. Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and its effective date. If the changes are significant, we'll also give notice in the app or on the site.
